The 3 Hour Meal Diet Weight Loss Plan
66The 3 Hour Diet Weight Loss Plan was created by fitness and weight loss expert Jorge Cruise. Weight control depends more on when you eat, than on what you eat is the premise of the 3 hour diet. The basis of this diet is that if you do not feed your body with a balanced diet on a consistent and regular schedule your body’s defense mechanism will go into “starvation mode.” This causes the body to hold fat and burn muscle tissue as part of this defense mechanism. Many people feel the actual act of eating increases your metabolism.
My Personal Experiences
I was introduced to eating 6 meals per day back in younger Gym Rat days. I am slightly less than 6 feet tall and have a big bone skeletal structure. I found early in life that my body would thrive on a program of heavy weights. After 2-3 years of working out daily with heavy weights, I was disappointed with my progress. I was getting big and muscular but I still retained a smooth body appearance and a small pot belly. The gym, where I worked out, was owned by a couple that were competitive level bodybuilders. I went to them and asked for advice. “Your diet sucks!” was their response. They offered to show me how to fix it. I was put on a 6 meal a day diet that included 2,000 calories. The high calorie intake was to help me retain lean body mass while losing only body fat. I had my body fat percentage checked every month to monitor my progress. Over the next six months, I went from 238 pounds down to 212 pounds, a loss of 26 pounds. My body fat percentage dropped from 24% to 12%, a loss of 32 pounds of body fat. My waist size went from a 38 to a 34. I gained about 5 pounds of lean body mass. The 6 meal a day plan worked really well for me. It can be a tough plan to stick to. The cons were; on about day four of the diet I went through a day of nervousness due to my body adjusting to the new eating schedule, I got really tired of eating almost continuously, and lastly, instead of having 3 opportunities to cheat on your diet you now have 6 chances to cheat. You have to have will power.

The 3 Hour Diet
The dieter is supposed to eat a small meal or snack every three hours. Cruise believes the body starts to consume muscle rather than fat if you eat at intervals longer than the 3 hour mark. This is not a desirable weight loss. At rest muscle tissue burns many more calories than fat tissue. The program calls for the dieter to eat a mix of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. During a normal day, dieters on the 3-Hour Diet will eat three meals, two snacks, and one treat. No foods are specifically ruled out. I was surprised at the fact a trip to McDonald’s is allowed on this diet. An example of the schedule would be:
• 6:00 AM Breakfast
• 9:00 AM Snack
• 12:00 AM Lunch
• 3:00 PM Snack
• 6:00 PM Supper
• 9:00 PM Treat *Note* The treat may be eaten with supper or at this time.
A template in the book enables the dieter to determine portion size instead of being required to count calories. By being able to visualize portions, it saves the dieter considerable work and frustration. The three meals are should be in proper portions, well-balanced and have an average of about 400 calories per meal. The snacks should be about 100 calories each. The treat should have about 50 calories.

Jack, I have heard that eating several small meals is a healthy thing to do, but this diet does make a lot of sense. You explained it very well and it worked well for you. This is an exellent hub.

I'm no expert and certainly not a body builder. However, I can say that I've always been a frequent eater (I eat 5 to 6 times a day) and it's always worked well for me. Keeping the portions small enough is critical though.
Very good hub! Keeping portions small and eating 5 to 6 meals a day. Works for me, I lose and feel good doing this. Unfortunately, life sometimes will take us off our routines and we wound up starting all over again. :)
This is also a good plan to follow if you are doing a low carb diet. Eat breakfast at 6:00am. Drink a protein shake at 9am. Lunch at noon. Protein bar at 3pm. Dinner at 6pm and another protein shake at 9pm.
