Internet Business Ideas That Didn’t Make Money for Me!
75I have been working on Internet business ideas for the last couple of years. Like many of you, I’m in love with the idea of making money while sitting at home in my underwear and fuzzy slippers. I can’t give you any quick answers to making you millions on the net. I have learned that it is a business and you must work it like a business. But I am also learning how not to make millions. That’s what this Hub is about. This Hub was done in an effort to save someone from repeating my mistakes. I am reminded of an interview I once heard with an owner of large NASCAR Racing team. The interviewer asked him about the business side of NASCAR racing. His response was, “If you want to make a small fortune in NASCAR, you need to start with a large fortune.” Needless to say that ended my dreams of getting into NASCAR Racing.
Get Rich Quick Programs
Let be serious for a minute here. If you had an idea on “How to Make $25,000 a Month Online Instantly” while sitting at home in front of my computer sipping coffee, would you be giving/selling this idea to the whole world? Not Me! I’d be home socking $25k in my bank account every month and laughing all the way to the bank. I’m not telling anyone anything about how I’m doing it. So what in God’s green earth makes you think any one of these programs is going to actually be the real deal on “How to make $25k a Month Online Instantly.” If these programs actually worked, we’d all be rich! Most of the money made on these programs is made by selling them to someone else. If you doubt me, look at the affiliate programs they offer for selling these products. Affiliate commissions range from 50-75% commission on each sale plus residuals on any membership fees. The big money in these programs are made by the sellers of the program, not the end-users. The moral of this story, “If it sounds too good to be true, then usually is!”
We’ll Give You a “FREE” Website
Yes, you too can be the owner of a free website. The problem is your website will look exactly like the thousands of other people’s websites that took them up on their offer. The look will be the same, the content will be same and the functionality will be the same. Google sees these sites as duplicates of thousands of other sites. They are nothing special. Packaged websites are only as good as the ability to customize them. Friends and neighbors when I say customizable, I don’t mean just changing the color scheme. The search spiders don’t see color. They see unique content and links. An example of a site that is extremely customizable is the free blog software Word Press. Word Press is customizable by using any of the thousands of themes available on the internet. Plus most of the themes are individually customizable. Packaged websites are good because they give you the basic functionality, information and will save you money on startup cost. But you must make it your own to achieve any kind of branded recognition from the search engines.

Months and months I spent to make money online. Now, I come to the main point of what online business is actually about, that is, writing articles! It's easy for you guys who are native speakers, but I find it a little bit difficult since English in my home country is as a foreign language. Any suggestion?
@aulialuqmanaziz - Thank you for the comment! I applaud you for your efforts in dealing with a foreign language. It must be difficult. The only suggestion I can offer is to make sure you have a good translator. I see articles that are translated from a foreign language and the translation is of poor quality. The article may be a great article but the translation is almost unreadable. I looked at some of your articles. They are well written and the translation is good. You are doing a good job in a difficult position.
I totally agree with you TnFlash, the guys claiming they have a sure shot money maker usually are the only ones who make money out of the deal.There truly is no short cut to success.Even though it may come faster and cheaper if you take your business online.
Yes, if it seems too good to be true it usually is. Yet so many see easy money when they should be running the other way.

Thanks for the unusual take on internet marketing. We usually only hear about 'what works,' which generally means signing up to something or other and parting with money.
I've been lucky so far, and am making money with Hubpages and copywriting, plus my two published books. I'm now branching out into art and design. I've never earned a bean from affiliate marketing - maybe I don't do it right. thanks again for the great article - am rating it up.
@Georgina_writes - Thanks for the comment & up rating! I have been trying various internet business for about 18 months. In this time I have made a whopping $32 in affiliate marketing. I'm making more doing article writing than all the other schemes put together. I'll be here Hubbing for a while.
I'm new to both blogging and websites. However for the last few weeks I have been looking into website design, adwords etc., and would agree that so far I have resisted a number of really persuasive marketing sites trying to involve me in using their "wonder product" which will net me at least $25K per month.
I appreciate your more honest appraisal. If it looks too good it definitely is at least 99% of the time.

An excellent hub, especially for those who are full of illusions about making a fortune overnight! Because of the reasons you've mentioned above, I like Hubpages. I believe working on Hubpages can be a good basis for one's own web site (I plan to take the web design course soon). Hubpages are simple to use if web design isn't something you ''have in your little finger.''

This is a great article. Having been around Internet Marketing for a while now it is a lot of work. You need to be persistent and not give up. It's not for everyone, as most people do not want to work hard enough to get the results.

I think you are right. Hubs are a great way to test an idea to determine if it can be made into a full blown site. Plus, if you start with a great hub then create a stand alone site, you have a great link to point at your site so that your readers can get even more great information.

After selling Watkins, Avon (several times), Tupperware (several times), AmWay, Fuller Brushes, and other MLM products, I finally decided to save myself some money and quit. Most of any income I got was spent on the products! I am trying to make a living in Internet Marketing, but have learned there is no magic bullet, just hard work. Hopefully, my hard work will eventually pay off. Great hub!

Yes, I like it. What gets me is that so many people think it is easy to earn money on line. Successful marketers have honed their skills for years and put in a lot of time learning, not just marketing but computer and internet skills. Even if they outsource them they still need to know enough to manage the people who work for them. I am one of those who have not managed to make it yet and am still working at it. But I no longer expect instant results (if I ever did). I do like the Challenge - Ed Dale's stuff which is free - and it is great for total newbies who need a place to start. [You can delete this sentence if you think it is inappropriate]
One other thing I have discovered - internet marketing changes from year to year and so what you do has to change also. I get irritated with people who are trying to sell what was hot three or four years ago. It might have worked then but the net has moved on since then.

They are sometimes filled with references to websites that don't even exist any more. Pitiful! Thanks again for the well written and thoughtful comment!
